English Language Department at the University Of Zakho Organized an Educational Competition

In the presence of Dr. Hoger T. Tawfiq, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, and Dr. Aveen M. Hasan, Head of English Language Department, along with the academic staff of the department, English Language Department at the University of Zakho organized an educational competition for the students of the department entitled “Reading Challenge Competition” at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. The essential purpose of this activity was to encourage students to read and motivate them to cultivate a love for reading. Additionally, reading comprehension strategies deepen students’ engagement and help them find their hidden English potential and build their communication skills.

All the students of the four grades of the department participated in the competition. Each grade selected 3 representatives to represent them in the contest. The representatives were given a book (selected by the organizing committee) to read a week before the competition. On the competition day, they were tested on their understanding of the content of the books. The top 3 winners with the highest points were awarded. Therefore the activity also embraced another section for the students attending in which they were asked some questions and awarded when they answered correctly.
